Doe A Deer

When Nature Makes You Speak Aloud

I was driving home after dropping off the kids and saw a family of 5 deer grazing in a field. It isn't a site I've seen often especially here in town. It made me say "Oh Wow" in a voice I did not recognize or expect. It just made me stop and think how cool it is when natures makes you speak aloud.
Here are a few of my favorite Etsy deer finds, that I hope make you say oh wow!

Mother's Day Goodies, Oh My!

Whooo hooo for Mother's Day Gifts, Even If Some Of Them Are From Yourself

Last Christmas I was going to buy a button maker, I'd saved up for it and everything only for some reason I didn't do it. I'm guessing I must have got a little craft happy and depleted my cash. I often get random ideas for things I want to create or play with and space it until months later! Like today. My gift from my husband was a 2 1/4" Badge-A-Minit button/mirror maker. I'm super excited. All of my ideas came rushing back and I immediately started to make a button. It came with like 25 buttons or so and he also bought me materials to make 50 mirrors! My head is spinning with the possibilities. I'll be attempting a mirror tomorrow.

I've been wanting more storage for my little crafty corner for a few weeks now. I've out grown my bookshelf storage unit from IKEA and don't really have room for another piece of furniture in my studio (my "studio" above is simply half of our dining room and NOT this clean/and or bare).

In my search I found the perfect solution, wall storage!! The one my little heart became settled on was the Making Memories Embellishment Center. Only problem? This baby was 80.00 bucks, eeep, and hard to find in stores!! Which meant if I really wanted it I would either have to buy it online and pay more for shipping or choose to drive around town like a crazy lady? I opted for the crazy lady route. After about 4 stores I had finally found it at Craft Warehouse in Vancouver. I just couldn't bring myself to spend 80 bucks. I promised myself I'd get it when it went on sale or if I could find some rockin' coupon and went home.

Well it finally happened!! I did a google search today and found it on sale online for a whopping 65.54 including the shipping costs!! Um hello, a steal if you ask me! And where did I find it you ask?? Ritz-Camera!! What??!! I know! How random is that?

As for the rest of my day it was awesome!! I got breakfast in bed! With the traditional three kid harmonic alarm clock sing song shouting “Happy Mother's Day" followed by a shower of hugs and kisses from all.
My mommy buffet included pancakes topped with whipped cream, sliced bananas with a cherry on top. Eggs, bacon and wheat toast with a glass of grape juice! Mmmmm..........

Next we spent the afternoon with my most favorite person on the entire planet, my Grandmother and then grabbed a bite to eat at a nummy Mexican restaurant in Portland off of McGloughlin!! Then I got to take a guilt free nap when we got home, score!

I hope all of you other mommies out there had the best day ever!

Presents of Mind

3633 SE Hawthorne Blvd.,Portland, OR 97214

In High School I'd go hang out with the BFF down on Hawthorne from time to time when I'd be visiting my Dad in Portland. Presents of Mind was one of the stores I'd always have to go into before getting nummy ice cream at Ben & Jerry's.
I always found rare goodies that were unique and different and so outside of the box of every day blah that I'd be happy for weeks. It is hard to believe that 10 years later I'd be making goodies of my own to be sold here!! I'm super excited to be a part of this awesome store and I can not even begin to tell you how happy I am!
I was completely amazed at the amount of Local goods available and seeing all of the items that lined the walls and corners of just about every nook and cranny imaginable made my head swim in awe.
It is still totally the awesome one stop buy me, buy me gift shop I remember it to be and more!

Ad Space, How In The World Do You Find It?

Um...how in the world does one find ad space? Who do you even ask?

I suppose one way to do it is to do what I did, stumble upon it. I found Majaba otherwise known as the heart-o-tron 3000.

It's a site that is directed towards artists with Etsy shops. It counts how many views and hearts your items have. I know what? Hearts views, huh?? Basically it tells a seller what is hot and what is not in one simple glance. I'm impressed.

So I clicked, inquired, and invested a whopping $12.00 for a weeks spot. That is pretty good if you ask me.

I realize that the majority of this sites users are indeed Etsy sellers. Is this a problem, do artists buy from other artists? Um heck yeah! Nearly 50% of my sales are in fact from other Etsy artisans so I figured this would be a great way to reach more Etsians.

Not only that but this way I'm helping to put money toward someone working their bootie off (thanks Julian) to provide this service that I've been using quite frequently. So double yay!

Admittedly I'm clueless when it comes to graphics or ads for that matter but this is what I came up with. Is it click worthy? I hope so!!

I'm famous!! Okay, not entirely true...but it still feels nice!

NW Kids Magazine

My son had a birthday party in March where we had friends and family come over for pizza, his favorite. At some point talk went to Little Daisy Chains and if I've thought about advertising. My brother’s mother in law, a very sweet gal who also happens to work in a Dr.'s office, suggested NW Kids as an option. I kind of laughed it off, not in a rude way but in a yeah right kind of way. Don't get me wrong, I love what I do but it is still hard for me to imagine that other people do as well. I bashfully never looked into it.

The party ended and a week went by. I opened my email just as I do nearly 50 bazillion times a day and found a message awaiting me in my inbox. It was a message from NW Kids!! They wanted to feature my hair accessories in their April issue. I was ecstatic, still am, and was jumping up and down calling my hubby and pretty much anybody else I could think of. Who knew my brother's mother in law had ESP!!

If you're local to the NW and you have children, chances are you've seen this magazine when you've gone to take your little one to the Dr. for a checkup or maybe even when you've found out that you yourself were going to have a sweet little baby of your own or heck maybe even at the dentist.

I've picked up this publication many times on my own as I have three children!! I read it while waiting to be called into appointments or while trying to pretend it is not my child tapping on the fish tank making funny noises. NW Kids has a ton of wonderful articles that help you and your loved ones stay healthy; it has fabulous activities for the family and even some great shopping ideas.

So anyhow, now that the issue is out I wanted to share my 15 minutes with you!! If you're local in the NW please take a peek, I'm on page 16 in the Jess Says section, I'm very excited and can't wait to see it in person!!
